The Rear Arm System is probably the most commonly used and seen gate automation system around. It’s popular because the rear arm system can fit on most every existing driveway, security or farm gate of either wood or steel construction. It’s also popular because it is the quickest automated gate system to fit. Used in the correct application it is a fantastic automatic gate opener system, giving good reliability.

Depending on the size and style of the automated gate system required, Ultra Secure Ltd are able to choose from a wide range of automatic gate opener systems - from various manufacturers, as being totally independent, we are free to find the right gate system for each physical location. However, we do not use hydraulic gate systems as we favour electro-mechanical methods.

The rear arm automated gate systems require that mains voltage exists at or near the gate installation, but we have the option of using 240 v ac motors or 24-volt dc motors. Battery back up is available for 24-volt systems.

The automatic gates will feel firmly locked when closed due to the motor and gearbox. However we do recommend an additional lock is fitted to the gates, when the length of each leaf extends beyond 2.5 meters. All our automatic gates are also supplied with a key that enables them to be manually opened in an emergency.

Important issues to take into account when opting for the rear arm systems are:

• There are certain measurements required around and behind the gate hinges to make the system work, please contact us for advice.
• When automating wooden gates of the completely ‘filled-in’ design - we need to factor in ‘wind age’ (i.e. what extra effect the wind might play) - roughly speaking if the gate is of this design it is like adding 33% to the length.
• We can obtain different designs of arms and brackets that can normally get around most problems with hinge and gate hanging problems.
• The gates will open to 130 degrees.
• It is best to have a mechanical stop in the ground at the closed and open position. If your gates are too high off the floor when closed it can create a problem due to a large stop which could catch the underneath of a low car.
• Solar power will not work on these systems properly.
